Melbourne taxi company Silver Top Cabs was back taking bookings the day after a fire ripped through its administration and contact centre headquarters on Tuesday.
Victorian Taxi Directorate spokeswoman Lisa MacDonald said technicians had worked through the night to enable taxi bookings to resume from 6.30am Wednesday. The fire is thought to have started in a downstairs office and spread quickly through the timber warehouse-style building in inner city Collingwood.
"It's been an incredible effort overnight," MacDonald said. "Silver Top is now taking taxi bookings." The Silver Top fleet comprises about 50 per cent of Victoria's cabs. Fire investigators are yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
